Alibaba: did coronavirus affect the earnings?

The Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba will publish its earnings report on February 13, at 14:30 MT time.

This will be one of the most closely watched releases as investors will be assessing the impact of coronavirus outbreak on the spending in the e-commerce sector, logistics and supply chains. The company has already taken measures to support the distribution, which includes lowering the platform fees. The actual scope of the tragedy will be revealed with the publications of current and future financial data. For now, analysts anticipate the company to post EPS at $2.27 and the revenue of $22.66 billion. If the actual figures are weaker, it will be bad news for the Alibaba stock, which has been up by 29% over the past 12 months.

  • If EPS and revenue outperform the forecasts, ALIBABA stock will rise;
  • If EPS and revenue underperform the forecasts, ALIBABA stock will fall.
