American apartment vacancy rate soars during second quarter

In the United States apartment vacancy rate went up during the second quarter and rents turned to be higher, as follows from a report from Reis Inc.

The national vacancy rate edged up moderately to 4.4% during the second quarter from 4.3% in the first quarter, as the real estate research company informed.

Asking rent managed to gain 1.3%, while effective rent tacked on 1.1% during the most recent quarter. They grew 3.5% and 3% respectively year-over-year, following the report.

Total inventory is supposed to inch up considerably this year. However, in the second quarter construction turned to be lower than expected in a quarter, which tends to witness the highest activity, as the company disclosed.

In the quarter, new construction totaled 36,477 units, descending from 57,586 units gained the previous year.

It happened to be the lowest quarterly addition for more than two years, according to the report.
